What did you do this Easter?
« on: April 08, 2007, 03:10:12 PM »
Just returned from cat sitting for my daughter and her husband in Kingston but during the week drove to Dulwich where my husband grew up.  We didn't go on a sentimental journey (although it was nice to see the pub we spent our 'courting years' was still intact and had not been pulled down like so many).  If anyone is interested though there is a superb gallery in Dulwich which at the moment has a Canaletto exhibition.  It is extremely popular judging by the number of people attending but well worthwhile if you like that sort of thing.  Canaletto spent ten years in England away from his Italian homeland and painted some of the well known buildings in London. The pictures are truly amazing.
We also went by boat from Kingston up to Hampton Court.  This was a first for us and the day was not long enough to explore everything before getting the last boat home.  The Palace itself is amazing but the gardens are an absolute riot of colour - again, go if you have the chance now, you will not be disappointed although take a picnic cos the restaurant prices are a bit on the high side.
Well thats it - I'm back home and the weekend is being spent trying to make some order of our garden. We are experiencing some good Aussie weather here for a change.

Hampton Court - ah yes, paid a brief visit there back in the 50s with Andree Jackson.  Lovely place.  I do miss antiquity

We've had a somewhat different sort of Easter i.e. getting hot and sweaty sorting out sheep for market and tree pruning and trying to satisfy cows who are on subsistence rations at the moment.  We seem to have gone back to summer temperatures, more's the pity, and once again are praying for rain.

I must admit I miss 'places' we would always to to Leeds Castle if we got bored, the kids loved it, and now when we look through old photos they say 'lets to to Leeds Castle".  We haven't got anything like that here, especially Perth.  I have to smile to myself when they talk about a very old building that was building in the 1830s.

We stayed home, the kids and grandthings all came down to us - as they do.  Pete and I have our birthdays within a week of each other, and it was over the Easter this year.  My son and his family went down to Australind to his wife's brothers.  We stayed and tidied the garden and that sort of thing.
