General Discussion / ALASKA CRUISE PICS.
« on: September 21, 2006, 12:49:52 AM »

I have tried adding more pics ....same process as b4..... However, after selecting pics and putting each on browser lines and pressing 'continue' I get this message and cannot continue....."Disk quota exceeded... You have a space quota of 1024k...Current files are 824k...adding this would make you exceed your quota" ..... then, nothing happens !!

Under the old system, adding pics seemed much easier.

Perhaps you could add a step by step instruction list to make my/ours lives easier when wanting to download pics for this site.....

With thanks, Graham.

I have managed to add three pics of our cruise to Alaska with friends from England.

Just as soon as I figure out how I can add more without getting an error message....I will add them.

Does anyone else have holiday pics for us to see?

General Discussion / Adding pictures to the picture gallery?
« on: September 17, 2006, 11:21:41 PM »
I have tried many times to add photographs to the picture gallery but cannot seem to be able to login like I could some time ago.

Is anyone else having the same trouble or are you able to assist?

I have asked Mike to help  but never have received a reply. Perhaps my e-mails are not getting through to him ?

My wife and I had a wonderful cruise to Alaska this summer and thought you might like to see some pictiures.

DICKIE..... Please accept my deepest commiserations on your recent loss.

General Discussion / Property prices in Downham.
« on: May 15, 2005, 11:29:11 PM »
My father passed away in Dunstable  late last year and his house was listed with a local Estate Agent.

Not being familiar with property prices in England I checked out the local realators via   and was very surprised at the prices I saw.

My next step was to check out the Downham area which I thought you might like to see if you too are out of touch with property prices.

Here are the steps that I took....
Click on London (south of the river)   Click on Bromley & Bexley
Scroll down to Downham......Suprise ! !

Maybe some past residents will recognise some of the roads and dwellings.

My question is " How can young couples looking for their own home afford those prices let alone pay the rent that is being asked for?"

As an added note.... My parents moved into a new semi-detatched bungalow in 1966 for 3,00 is listed at 255,00 pounds.

Just think...when I was a kid I would take 36 bus ride for  1d to the Hippadrome, go up into the 'Gods' for 3d or 6d and watch Tommy Trinder play Carman Mirada and back home for another penny..... Those were the days.

I would love to buy you all a 6d pint. but would probably have to remortgage my house at todays prices for beer ....LOL. Take care,   Graham A

General Discussion / MIKE.... MISSING PERSON?
« on: November 01, 2003, 09:12:50 PM »

Are you out there in the 'Wild blue yonder' for I have e-mailed a couple of times and not heard back?

I can, sometimes, log in to the 'Picture Gallery' to add photographs and when I try again, using the same details as my original registration, I cannot. Hopefully, you can fix the problem your end.

I am also curious as to where my messages for the General Chat have gone. They are not appearing after being sent.

I heard from Smiffy who is also having problems logging in to the Picture Gallery.

Hope to hear from you soon....   Graham Allen.

Greetings Mike,

I like your latest addition....Picture Gallery.

Have added three pictures but when I came to log in a second time I was not accepted using the same details as before... Help!

Suggestion: It took me a while to discover how the new system works after much trial and error.... Perhaps you would be so kind and  post printable instructions fo first timers like me who forgot the steps..Thanks!

Regards, Graham Allen.

Where are they now? / Cricket.
« on: September 08, 2003, 01:53:18 AM »
I wonder if kids still play some of the school games that we did during our secondary school days?

The game of cricket played with a text book was a favorite of mine and often got me and others into trouble during class for not paying attention.

If I recall, to play, each player listed his best eleven team players on a piece of paper. The opposing player turned the pages of a text book and read the letter of the alphabet on the first line on the top right hand page as a play... ie. L= LBW, C=Caught, S=Stumped, B= Bowled etc. etc. A letter was designated for four runs and another for six. All other letters were one run each.

The object of the game was to 'Get out' the other team by randomly openeing the text book and recording the score on your piece of paper. At the same time not getting caught by the teacher!

Happy Days!   ............   Graham.

When will it be possible to add attachments to our letters for all to see?

Enjoy this site and thanks for the effort you put into it!

General Discussion / Forest fires.
« on: August 06, 2003, 07:10:15 PM »
Greetings from British Columbia.

Whilst Britain bathes in high temperatures, we in BC are having the worst forest fire season in over fifty years. There has been little or no rain for weeks and the forests are tinder dry.

Forest fires continue to rage throughout south-central BC keeping 8,000 people away from their homes and a state of emergency is in effect.

At present there are 306 fires of which 217 were started by humans and the rest by lightening. A total land area of 400 sq. kilometers is on fire with at least 225 houses, outbuildings and businesses have been razed.

Phew! It is hot again today but being one block from the ocean over looking the snowcapped mountains on Vancouver Island there is a cool gentle breeze across the water. However, a pint or two from the 'Old Downham Tavern' would go down well right now!

Graham. A
