That was a right old caper, converting to Decimal, got used to it after a while. What I hate is, changing measurements, especially over here.  length and liquid, I wish they would give the measurement with the old one beside it. It's really ruining my cooking, and with distance half the time I don't know where I am going, apart from old age it makes it twice as bad.  :)  Smiffy

Did anyone go to Marchants Hill Camp, Hindhead in Surrey whilst at school ? I still recall Gibbet Hill, Frensham Ponds, Devils Punchbowl and Hogs Back etc. and it was a mixed boys and girls camp /Quote

Ken.   I went to Marchants Hill camp with Mr Woodrow and a gang of boys (No Girls unfortunately) we went to the devils punch bowl Frenchham Ponds, Gibbit Hill?. Do you remember the story of the Sailor that was murdered there, I have pic's of all this the dormitories where we slept and Hind head, the dormitories each had a different name I believe. I think I put a postcard of Marchants hill camp on this website. Did you drink Dandylion & Burdock(maybe spelt wrong), at a local "tuck Shop".  Smiffy

Ken.    Yes it was Dorrington, Mr Pullen taught us English. He was a nice guy, He used to make funny noises while we where reading "wind in the willows",imitating toad and the others. I believe Mr Dorrington died in a car crash and Mr Pullen past away when I was still at the school. There should be some pic's of the school and the school badge somewhere on this site. Great Memory's. Mr Woodrow taught us Geography. Men of many talents!.   Smiffy.

Hi Ken Welcome to the club.  My Brother Michael Smith went to Downham Central about the same time as you. I was there from 1956-1960. Anycase He told me some of the Masters there, when He was there, Mr Donnatt was the Head, Mr Peters, Mr Woodrow, I think Mr Wright, Mr Sayers, Mr Kyte as well. The School has been knocked down now, but I got some pic's when I was over a few years ago. I live in Canada now, a lot better off, but I miss the old Country.  Smiffy   :)

I must be to young to know what the LEMON parts are . Give me a clue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Splinter   Maybe the term is N. American it refers to a new car that has been bought, and it keeps having the same problem that the garage cannot fix. So in my message I was referring to the parts of our body that did not grow strong enough when we where young, so now they are the weaker part and start to show their age. Of course no offense was insinuated to you or anybody else, it is just a light hearted way of explaining why things go wrong as we get older.  Smiffy :)

I am also sorry you have been unwell Vic. These things seem to catch up to us, I do not mean to be rude about your age, but I have found as I have got older the " Lemon " parts of my body have begun to make themselves known.  :) Smiffy.

Well it's blinking hot here in canuck land, normal temp here is 27c but with the humidity it is 40-44c, we have had a lot of heat alerts, and they open special places for people especially the poor and elderly called cooling centres. Maybe that is not as hot as Aussie, but it sure does get to you. Of course in the winter we complain because it is too cold, but that's people for you.  I heard from a Friend over 'ome He tells me they are not going to knock down the green man it is a listed building. Apparently the new people who run the council estate now will move into there. So what am I doing?, sitting here with my shirt off,(oh God what a sight) waiting to see if it gets worse then we will have to put the air conditioner on. Watching the world cup naturally, hoped Germany would get through they played very well, showed England how to play the game, so we will have to wait till Sunday, the match comes on about 2:00 pm here. So over here there is a lot of housing construction going on and the sales people tell you about the place and then some times they tell you the garage is big enough for one and a half cars. Which brings me to the funny. Tommy Cooper " Bought a new house the other day lovely place, has a garage big enough for one and a half cars, so I bought myself a new  car, then went down the junk yard and bought half a car, just like that. :) :)

Its the football Splinter, World cup. England have to play Germany, a wise guy latenight show on American TV cracked if England has trouble beating the Germans, give them a call and they will come and help "again".  I wish I could have told him the game would be nearly over before they got involved, just like before.  Smiffy :)

Sorry had to start one, England blew a good chance, Aussies well it's a shame but you where up against a fantastic team, but good job anyway. I wonder how the Kiwi's will do they will have to play Italy.  All three stand a chance disregarding teams mentioned. So we will see how it goes. Football is certainly the international game in the World now!!!!.    Smiffy.   P.S I played football once, Left Back, I was always left back in the changing room. :) :)

Same here in canuck land, we should have the extra box to check.   Smiffy---the rebellious  :)
We need one here in Australia - Voting is compulsory.  We may have an election this year.  Our current PM is useless, promising stuff and not fulfilling.  The leader of the opposition is a delusional joke.

That's what we need here in Canada, compulsory voting. The turn out is very bad for local and federal elections.  People use the excuse that all politicians are the same, maybe they are right but, hence the extra box to show your distrust.  Smiffy. :-\

I will say it again. Why dont they put an extra box to tick, stating none of the above as they are all useless

Same here in canuck land, we should have the extra box to check.   Smiffy---the rebellious  :)

Lot's of Wars going on around the World Splinter, trouble is it's British,Canadian,Australian and US Soldiers being killed and they are not fighting for Peace in their own country, which is maybe  where they should be to fight these people killing innocent people with human bombs.  Sorry about the ranting, we now have lovely sunshine in Canuck land, I can sit on my balcony in the warmth smoking my pipe.  8)  Smiffy

I do not want to break the flow of this post, but I was watching a live soccer match from the old country, and the commentator reminded every one that it was Mothers Day in the U.K.. So happy Mothers day to all the Mums,( We would not be here if it wasn't for you). This also applies to Mums who have left us but still in our Hearts.   Smiffy  :)

Hi Brenda     Thanks I had an idea that was where it was. Which makes me think now that the house may have been on Mooreside road, but it did not look like a council house when I think of the "types of houses forum that is discussed" . I think you are a "smasher", Dickie isnt the only one.  Anycase look out for the program if you are interested in getting a nice thrill out of seeing the old place on TV.  Smiffy   :)
