How interesting.  I have just read it through, and found out a good many facts I didn't know.  My parents moved to Geraint Road in 1937 from Walworth, and there they stayed until they got a transfer to a GLC bungalow in Deal.  Downham was a comfortable place for me, I always felt I 'belonged'.  In fact when I first met my husbands extended family, they were a bit 'strange' until they found out I was another Downham girl, they lived in Churchdown Road.  My husbands family came from Deptford, and ended up in Blackheath.  My fathers family came from Deptford.  My maternal grandparents came from Walworth.  There is also another site which may interest you:

Hey Pauline  I was born in a House nearly opposite the Downham Girls School on Churchdown, Lived there from '45 to 1970 when I got Married.
When you think as you write these things do you guys get a special feeling inside you, they tell us not to think of the past but its bloody hard when you have such fond memorys, they "where" the good old days and nobody can tell me different. and I am unanimouse in that!.

How nice to hear from you again Smiffy.  Where have you been?  I trust all is well with you and yours.   My father was a postman for some years as was his brother.  I can't be doing with all this chopping and changing.  I like things to stay the same!

Hi Brenda    I am struggling through a rotten winter, loads of snow & 0- F cold weather the F stands for Farenheit & Freezing. Then I tell myself you made the bed you lay in it. Any case you guys "down " there we will be swapping Spring & Fall with us, then we get to have the Summer, so don't hold on to the heat let it all come up here. All the family are well thanks Brenda. Thanks. Smiffy
