General Discussion / Phoenix Festival - Saturday 11 May 2013
« on: April 19, 2013, 07:16:16 PM »
Residents can expect another great day out, with fun for all the family.  Our sixth festival will be on Saturday May 11, from 11.30am to 4.30pm, at Forster Memorial Park in Whitefoot Lane, BR1 5SD.

This year we are celebrating our fifth birthday as Phoenix Community Gateway, and all that we have achieved together.  There will be a giant birthday card to sign, and a great birthday cake game to play too.

The Phoenix Sports Arena was a great success last year, and is back again with  the Sillympics; bringing us their giant slug races, dinosaur egg and spoon race, and a Pirates and Parrots race! All of this alongside the old favourites such as the Wild Hunt Bedlam Morris Dancers, Archery, the Climbing Wall, the City Farm animals, and plenty of arts and crafts to do too.

General Discussion / Green Man Update
« on: November 01, 2012, 10:12:34 PM »
The Green Man’s foundations and the ground floor slab have been completed. A recent visit by Phoenix and our contractor, Osborne, to an Austrian timber factory saw the building’s timber frame actually being manufactured. The frame will begin to arrive on the 22 October and will be erected in November.

Steve Connor, Head of Sustainability, said: “Soon people will be able to see the Green Man rise before their eyes and, once started, building progress will be quick”. Development of the site continues to be on schedule with its opening planned for mid 2013. The Green Man will be home to our partners, Lewisham Plus Credit Union and Lewisham Council’s Training Kitchen, as well as being a facility for a range of local business and service providers.

Steve continued: “Our aim with the Green Man has always been for it to be a space that people not only enjoy but also can benefit from. We’re meeting with local businesses and services to see how we can include others in delivering the best possible resource for our community”.

General Discussion / Whitefoot Assembly Fund Launch 2012/13
« on: July 03, 2012, 09:44:13 AM »
The Whitefoot Assembly Fund will be launched on Wednesday the 4 July 2012. The Assembly Fund stands at £18,750, £3,750 of which will be on Councillors recommendations with the remaining £15,000 allocated to groups wishing to apply for funding.

We are asking groups, organisations or individuals  to continue to build their proposals around addressing one or more of the five ward priorities as well as one or more actions within the action plan.  However, there have been some changes to the criteria for applying for this year’s Assembly Fund which are outlined below.

•   2 projects to be capped at £4,000
•   4 amounts of up to £500 seed funding for first time projects
•   Remaining projects will be capped at £2,000

We would like to see further participation within the Assembly from groups who apply for funding so we will ask that all applicants who receive funding attend at least two out of three  assembly meetings and bring along 2 / 3 service users or members of their group, organisation to those meetings. The Assembly can request a project to present at future assembly meetings, failure to adhere to this agreement will result in that group, organisation or individual being ineligible for future Local Assembly funding.

All applications are to be submitted no later than Monday 10 September 2012. There will then be a vote held at St John’s Church Hall on Thursday 25 October 2012.

For an application form or more information on the 2012/13 Assembly Fund or any other assembly related matters please contact Jason Fleming on: 0208 314 3253 or email Jason at: Jason.fleming@lewisham.gov.uk
