yes....two balls up the wall to salt mustard vinegar pepper, and then underneath your leg  with the ball.....i must admit  I can still do it using my dogs two tennis balls up against the wall in Danson Park......(not the underneath leg bit tho..) Fag cards against the wall was another game as well as conkers baked in the oven to make them lovely and hard.  Belx

I thought Mick McManus was associated with wrestling and my Dad took me to see him at New Cross (I think the tablets I am on are making me more confused than usual) . Saturday morning pictures at the old Splendid were a treat, especially when they supplied us with these funny little cardboard glasses which made the picture look in colour.  Yes the ABC closed down and retirement flats were built. I remember ...was it The Queens Hall ?....... a cinema in  Catford, where you ordered a cup of tea when you went in and it was brought to you in the interval. You never had to go far in those days to enjoy yourself .  Belx

my dad was a tram conductor on the 54 trams and the last tram to run in Downham was in 1952.  My ex husband was employed in taking up the old tram lines, and that was also in 1952. Welcome Splinter..you are a breath of fresh air....Belx

I am sorry to hear about Tella, how very sad, but she was so fortunate to have you for her mum.  Have just come back from the vet yet again (every week now) as Sapphie has to have blood tests every two weeks and her medication adjusted accordingly, (potasium and sodium levels are too high). It was her birthday last week (6) so she had extra chicken. For the last 5 years she has been on a diet to keep her weight down, but since being diagnosed with Addisons disease I have a hard job to keep her weight up.....cant seem to win this fight.     My daughter in law who lives in Nottingham is a vet and has just added to her family of animals by adopting yet another cat.  This one is cross eyed, has no tail and only 3 legs (was savaged by a dog 2 weeks ago) Her other two cats each have one eye missing were in road traffic accidents. I can remember the high winds years ago...waking up and finding my shed in next doors garden and all the fencing down, along with some trees in Greenwich Park and I thought that was traumatic enough .  Your words have made me have a clear out of all unnecessary paper work, my most important possessions being my mother's wedding and engagement rings which are always on my finger.....the memories are all in my head.....If anything happened I would just grab my little dog  who is still poorly, my handbag and try and get to safety (just been diagnosed with osteoporosis so could hardly run). It is raining today but altho it is getting colder is still bright.  My thoughts are with you every day, so please keep us informed .  You seem so organized which I do admire,  I would be running around like a headless chicken.  Belx

went to Bexleyheath today and my last look around Woolies. Yes Dickie I didnt notice any bargains, I dont know where 50% came from.  I remember my Uncle Percy Goldsmith talking about a jockey in the family. Have just come back from a week in Spain (sisters 83rd birthday treat) . Everything was so expensive, and it rained for 3 days .  Bel

Well, now Woolworths are closing down... I have very fond memories of the one situated in Downham.  I remember it opening about 60 odd years ago, and I used to work there as a Saturday girl. :o Belx

My relatives were the Goldsmiths of Reigate Road.......perhaps Ann is an offshoot of them? Funny enough I have found several of them on Facebook and have now been in contact with relatives I lost touch with many moons ago.  I am still on the old Sarsparella Dickie!
