I saw that school today...I just cut through the back roads , went down Shroffold Road, my late mother in law used to live at 83...the Kelly family, I was married to one of the twins, Dave Kelly, but devorced ...I remember reading about a guy who was searching for his mum, who was my sister in law, his name was Peter pyke but she had unfortunately she died before he could trace her, I believe he lives in the states, so sad that was... I do look in here now and then, thinking there maybe someone I know..Keep well everyone... speak in about another year! ( lol)..

Yeh, I remember him. I haven't been on here for about a year so have not read any other posts about him. But as far as I can remember, he was killed but a newspaper delivery van, when he went to the depot to get his papers as he did very day, very tragic, that was many years ago.

Well Bill, to say I am shocked is putting it mildly!!! I'd live on Downham, Pontefract Road, until I married at 23...I now at  65, live just up the road from the Flower House Estate, Southend Road, Beckenham end...I had a friend who used to live there and used to go there quite often..Very interesting!!!  Also to think it was a lunatic asylum!!! :o

I used to go to Burnt Ash School, and dont remember that David Bowie went there though he is younger than me.I didn't even know he was a Downham boy??? His Mum used to live opposite where I live in Beckenham, about 30 odd years ago. I believe he used to perform at THE  3 TUNNS IN BECKENHAM. :)

John Surtees was a big fan for me, I was at Brands (Johnsons Café, was another of my hang outs)when he beat world champ Geoff Duke, Yes I remember his dads shop in Forest Hill, did not know he lived in Bellingham interesting family? My uncle Chas got me into bikes at about 13 years old, he would pick me up from home on his 197cc Excelsior and we would travel all around the south with trips to Devon/Cornwall. Then he got a Triumph sprung hub 500cc, which he sold to my dad, who broke his leg in two places in Keedonwood Road avoiding a Dog. I rode bikes up to about 2000, then got a 4x4 and caravan and travel all over OZ. Going back to the fog, we only get a sea miss, which does not stay long, them smoggy days have long gone.  ( Sunny 31 deg. today) Must be something in the water, John Surtees. Cooper Bros and David Bowie living around our area. Bowie went to the same school as me, Burnt Ash Primary, a few years behind me. Regards Frank. ........     Not sure how to reply to this...But I live in Beckenham, and David Bowie's Mum used to live across the road to me...I also went to BuRNT ASH PRIMARY and this is the first I've heard of David attending the school.

:D So Glad I jogged some memories.   The pub that used to be the top of Whitefoot lane, was called THE NORTH OVER, which is now a petrol garage..I  had my hen night there, (the pub, I mean, haha)  when I married my 1st hubby, DAVE KELLY, back in 1972.
Does anyone remember the funny little newspaper  man, who used to have a stand in the GREEN MAN car park?  He was a very upright man who used to delivery papers himself, even to my block of flats in Beckenham, in the early 70's (SOUTHEND ROAD).He was always walking fast, almost running..Tragically,  he was run over and killed by a lorry reversing, at the depot where he used to collect the newspapers.
I used to go to the Baltabarin , I think it was called, the side of what was the old big DOWNHAM TAVERN. There used to be a disco there a few nights a week, and they quite often used to have DJ's from RADIO CAROLINE , and as I knew 2local DJ'S at the time,  JOHN TOWNSEND & JOHN SIMPSON  ( I was his girl friend at the time) I got to meet them, and also some of the groups around then, can only think of PROCIAL HAREM at the moment.  Well that's me done for now....nice to reminisce aye... Please excuse my spelling.....Have a nice weekend one and all, no matter where you are in the world.....,Pam xx

Well I've heard from someone who remembered the BALTABARIN  days, is there anyone else out there....There used to be a guy who was always getting thrown out of there, CLIVE GARTHWAITE,  I think his name was.. does anyone remember him?  was gonna write some more but will come back another time, the page is jumping all over the place!!!
