Brenda.    Yes there was a lot of changes. There are lots of changes everywhere these days, and as you get older you find them hard to cope with. So things are different!  England  is expensive. I wished things had stayed the same but change is inevitable, so if you did make the move you would have to be prepared for a colossal change, I think especially if you are carrying your memories around when you are there. I think lots more visits would be a good idea.   Thanks for the feed back Brenda.  You have always been a great Friend to everyone on Downham On Line and I think everyone appreciates it. God Bless.  Smiffy

Hello Brenda.  Thank you for getting InTouch. Hope you and the Family are well. My lovely Bride Pam passed away in 2013, probably from the effects of the chemo on Her Heart, we miss Her very much.  In November I was 'over 'ome ' sorting out my Brothers Funeral I am the only surviving relative so I ended up at Hither Green Cemetery scattering His ashes , I am glad I did this for My Brother, other wise it would have been a stranger. Stayed in a Hotel in Bromley, enjoyed myself looking around Bromley,Downham & Catford. I am going to go back more often, it still feels like Home.  All The best.   Smiffy

General Discussion / Re: Weather
« on: August 15, 2011, 01:13:22 AM »
Well here in Canada we have had humid weather, which I would like too add was one of the benefit's of living in England,as an Island we seem to get changes of weather any time during the day, Canada and Australia being large country's may not benefit from the weather patterns that surround  the UK.   But then of course there is the riots in London, most disappointed that the old country would come to that. We have had riots in Toronto when they held the G-20 summit, and also after the Vancouver winter Olympics, but groups of fanatics where spotted who obviously turn up to cause trouble were 75% of the problem. I wonder if this is what happend in England, some reports blame people from other country's who now live in England, but most of it was as they call it home grown people. Sorry I  diverse form the subject, but I really am sorry too hear what happend. Smiffy >:(

Quote//   Interesting really how so many of us who are so very far from Downham now still tend to think of it as home.

Absolutely:   I am trying to find relatives by the name of Smith. My Parents are Dead now, do I ever wished I had taken the time to at least ask them about their family and write it down, I may not have been that keen then but now i do not have the chance I regret not talking to them about Family.   I went to school with Wendy Goodyear,

Smiffy, was your Wendy Goodyear related to the Goodyears who lived along Downham Way, just down from Moorside Rd, backing onto the Hill?   I knew Phyllis Goodyear as Aunt Phyllis. She worked with my mother as a dinner lady at Ballamore for a while and when I was little, Mum would leave me with her occasionally if necessary.  I believe her husband was Ray.  They had no children and shared the house with another couple, possibly Ray's brother and his wife.

Bren

Sorry Brenda I do not know where She lived, I think I have a photo of Her in my class at Downderry. I will have to look for it, and learn to upload it to the forum.  Smiffy

Hello Hoppo   I was at Downham the same time as you I guessed it was you, I am not sure what classes we where in together, but I do remember your friend Hawkins who lived on White foot lane who ended up in a clothes washing detergent advert, shinning white foot lane.  I went to school with Wendy Goodyear, I may have been Downderry infants or Juniors. Glad you are doing well. Beat wishes Smiffy or Smudger which ever you remember me by. :)
