@Morning, now that the snow has cleared we can get back to normal (almost !), did any of you attend the Saturday/ Sunday hops at Valeswood community Club , or the YWCA,  "Green Man",  "Artillery House", Downham Tavern, King Alfred, or the North Downham Community Centre ? ? ?. I certainly spent a lot of my time there between 1940 on mostly during leave periods.I met quite a nice bunch of new friends, boys and Girls' and sometimes wonder what happened to them all' the past was interesting and not that bad although my outlook is probably a survivors point of view  Dickie.......

From its original aims it seems the "Homes fit for Heroes" has certainly produced its own brand of personage far beyond what was envisaged, even by our parents.Travel, even into the next county, some far beyond and taking their affinity for what most of them still call "Home". funny when I remember my Parents calling Bermondsey "Up Home",or occasionally "Up the other end !". I did consider emigrating every time I hit a new port (with the exception of China and Japan)Oz and NZ were a real, pull as two of my Dutch Grandchildren are now finding out for themselves , Canada also but NOT  the french quarters, America was so so except for the Lone Star State mmm, Yes, especially San Angelo  and Now after all that I finish (at the moment) in Windsor of all places that I would not wish on anyone,YEEEUUKKKK.   sorry I'm just going to wash my mouth out           dickie..............

General Discussion / my farewells to my son
« on: May 16, 2007, 09:22:45 AM »
Just to inform my friends that at last the authorities at the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew have permitted my son Richard, his ashes , to be scattered in the grounds that he loved on his 56th. Birthday, May 15  and where he spent most of his leisure hours visiting. Far better than any morbid cemetery because there is a constant renewal of life going on all around. plus we have such a happy and pleasant place to "visit"          dickie........................

Just a message to my friends, you may find me subdued for a while because on  Thursay last August 31st. my son passed away at home. he had suffered cancer for the last few years and finally succumbed to one of the most odious diseases man has yet to beat.  he will be cremated on thurs after a service at St. Sarkis armenian church in South Kensingtonon Thursday at 11.30  where he was married ,  and thence to Mortlake crematoria. we hope his ashes will be spread on some spot he loved at Kew.  sadly dickie.........

fed up with being lonely and abandoned'beginning to feel like Smudge, we have 57 passengers and only one driver.! to boot I never even made the Jazz club cos the thought of a 214 kilometer round drive to Bexley was a bit  too much plus I was put off by stories of the number of clubs, Bars. Wine bars etc. and general rowdiness in the area . even Downham's environs are changing for the worse I could make the Heath though Bel. lets have an update on Sis lover  , hope she is improved, roll on summer.'bye   dickie..............

We had a discourse on families we knew, I am reliably informed that there is still a Ms Cakebread in the upper area of Geraint. I think her name is Phyllis . It is not a common name, so I may find Fred or Billy yet.can you gold coast people send us some reliable sunshine please cos we are having real "D-day" weather here, and in Amersfoort it is freezing.    dickie........................

General Discussion / Coparisons

I appear to qualify for a "Grumpy old Git "award, after discussing the different life styles we had respectively with grandchildren . As a kid I walked everywhere I wanted to go, or beg for an all-day ticket as passengers got off the tram. The children today expect to be taken by a parent in the family car, that is until they are seventeen (still at school !) when they expect daddy to give them a car. And WORK sacrilage ! they are above that mundane sort of thing and the boys are all going to be highly paid footballers, or pop singers, and "Oh NO ! You don't pay to live at Home " (And they still expect pocket money , and feeding, and clothing , " Oh no not those trainers they are cheapies and not fashionable, we wannt the expensive ones ! !) With little excercise and a poor diet we will probably outlive them eh ? ....Dickie...........
