Sorry had to start one, England blew a good chance, Aussies well it's a shame but you where up against a fantastic team, but good job anyway. I wonder how the Kiwi's will do they will have to play Italy.  All three stand a chance disregarding teams mentioned. So we will see how it goes. Football is certainly the international game in the World now!!!!.    Smiffy.   P.S I played football once, Left Back, I was always left back in the changing room. :) :)

General Discussion / Unsellables UK
« on: February 18, 2010, 06:35:00 PM »
Unsellable UK, is a program made in England about people having difficulty selling their homes. On February 17 just past, they aired a show here in Canuck land, and it was about a place near Grove Park station, went crackers when I saw it, They showed the outside of the station, and what was probably Baring rd and the top of Downham way. Could not clue into what street the house was on. They showed the Downham Tavern and the Downham Health and fitness centre. I think the program is a few years old. I cannot register in my mind the location of the Downham Tavern,(always boozed down the bottom) can some one enlighten me please. Maybe it will come to your TV station.   Smiffy.   :)

General Discussion / There's no place like home?
« on: July 26, 2009, 01:02:39 AM »
I am the biggest stick-in-the-mud ever. I have no interest in going on holiday anywhere, much preferring to stay at home where I am busy, busy, busy. Don't like sitting on beaches, don't like travelling - particularly by car.  Have no interest in being in hotels, motels or caravans or staying in other people's homes.

Oh  Brenda   Your not an old stick in the mud, your like me, there's no place like home.  Smiffy
That quote was taken from another forum.   So here we are living in different places & country's, on a web site going through memory's of the place where we where born and  first lived. Downham is home, no! where you live is now home.  I know, home is where the heart is.   A perplexed Smiffy :)

General Discussion / Downham Bromley?
« on: May 23, 2009, 08:12:22 PM »
So roaming through google streetview I noticed the roads in Downham as listed as say churchdown rd Lewisham, now I know we come under Lewisham in the registry, so MIKE do you still use Bromley as your address. I guess we were not good enough for the bunch in Bromley remember valeswood rd wall, so they shoved us over to Lewisham. Lewishams postal address is SE13, then comes Catford SE6 before you get to Downham. So it all seems odd to me, I remember the address as Downham Bromley Kent so we are all people from Kent a luvely county, but I guess we are too common for them.  :)  Smiffy

General Discussion / Ack Ack Gun Durhamhill
« on: March 08, 2006, 12:38:58 AM »
I hope you do not mind me bringing this up again, as a part of Downhams history I would like to find out. I have enclosed a message I got from Lewisham studies and Archives:
Dear John
Thank you for your enquiry, unfortunately very little has been written of the history of Downham [yet!] but the other night I was talking to some one who was raised in Downham during the war and one thing he did mention was that there were an AA gun emplacement at Durham Hill, Downham. So I can confirm that I have been told that there was one there.
Is that all you needed to know?
Yours Sincerely,
Sally Deves

General Discussion / Anti Smoking
« on: March 11, 2005, 12:03:37 AM »
Over here in Canuck land we are having a revolution , no more smoking because of 2nd hand smoke causing people to get lung cancer, I am a Pipe smoker myself, I will not disclose the ingrediants even to you dickie. I dont think tobacco is the only source for this ,any case, point is, loads of Pubs and restaurants have had to close down here because people cannot smoke in public places. Is this the reason why places like the Garden Gate had to close?.   Smudger Smiff
