General Discussion / Roof Tiles
« on: July 11, 2016, 07:39:09 PM »
Well Roof Tiles That Were Damaged Have Been Replaced. They Were Original Tiles And Could Not Get Exact Replacements, I Was Told (Do Not Know How True This Is) That The Tiles Were Made In Belgium. I Personally Can Not See That. I Am Sure That In The Mid 1920`s When Downham Was Being Built, We Made Tiles Good Enough In This Country. By The Way, My House Is 90 Years Old This Year, Not Sure Of Actual Completion Date, If Anybody Does Know When Pendragon Road Was Completed I Would Love To Know.. And For All Of You Who Are Wondering About This Countries Brexit Vote.. At This Moment I Can See No Change Except A Lot Of People Panicing For No Reason. And On Wednesday We Will Have A New Prime Minister. Teresa May !! No Don`t Ask Me What She Is Like, I Have No Idea. Just A Case Of Wait And Find Out. Anyway All Of You Keep Well.

General Discussion / Storms Over Downham
« on: March 30, 2016, 05:26:23 PM »
Sorry Not Been On For A While. Hope That Everybody Is OK. Went To Downham Last Thursday Night, The Traffic Up Southover Onto Downham Way Was A Joke, But Other Than That, As Soon As Everybody Gets Home It`s Like A Ghost Town. Nobody Seems To Go Out Anywhere, I Know The Weather Wasn`t Good, But Even So There Wasn`t Antbody In The Tavern, Except For A Few Old Boys And The Music In There Was So Loud You Couldn`t Talk If You Wanted To. Then Last Sunday Night We In The Southeast Got Hit By A Storm. It Took A Few Tiles Off Pendragon Road House, So Need To Get That Done ASAP. Then I Wondered If The Tiles On My House Were The Same As When It Was First Built. I Will Have To Look At Some Old Photo`s To See. Get Back To You All About That. Keep Well All Of You.

Hi Alf, Just To Add To Where You Were Evacuated To. My Mother Was Evacuated To Folkestone. She Was Nearer The Germans Than 98% Of Our Forces. But If They Did Invade They Would Not Of Got Passed Her. A Stern Look From Her Could Sink A Battleship.

I Went Back To Downham Last Week. Nothings changed except theres new street lights and they are resurficing the roads. Pendragon Road is like a Snooker Table, Very Smooth. I Wonder How Long That Will Last With All The School Buses Going Down It. The Speed Humps are still a bit tall, if you are not careful they can take your Oil Sump Off. Oh And The Privet Hedges are growing like mad again. My Hedge Must Be 89 years Old Now.

I See That it has all gone very quiet on here lately. I do hope that everybody is safe and well. Everytime i drive down Pendragon Road i still cannot get used to the new school. It looks more like a prison, In a bland concrete grey with very high fences. I suppose i will get Used to it in another 10 years or so. Weather here in UK has been a bit mixed. At the moment the Sun is shining Warm but not Hot. Anyway all keep well.

Hi All, Yes i am still alive, but not been well for a few weeks as i did my back in at work but i should be back at work next week. Sorry but i have not had much to tell you about, i was in Downham today and a very lovely day it is i was down to shirt sleeves. The Tavern has reopened, The Green Man is now a Car Showroom and the Tigers Head are now Flats. I am going to go to the prefab estate on my next visit to see what changes have been done there. So i will report back ASAP.  OK you can all go back to sleep now.

Due to the lack of affordable housing in this Country you would think that Prefabs would be the way to solve the problem. Not demolishing them. We need many more Prefab Estates that can be Quickly put up on Brownfield sites and rented out. Rant Over.

Peter Pan`s Pool. Oh what memories. There also was a Fun Fair behind the pool, i cannot remember how much it cost to get in but i do remember them putting an ink stamp on your hand so you could go in and out. The Company that owned the motorboats also hired the boats out in Greenwich Park, i used to walk all the way there and then under the footway tunnel across the Thames which was next to the Cutty Sark and then walk home. A whole day out for nothing. I don`t think kids these days would do it even if they were allowed to. I loved to explore and still do when i visit new places.

That`s OK. I go back to Downham every month and travel up Southover it hasn`t changed that much. I am afraid i am too young to know many of the people that have been asked for. I Was born on the 6th April 1954 in Pendragon Road went to Ballamore Nursery and Infants and 3 years ago i met a work mate who was at school with me then, he lived in the flats in Ballamore. His Name is Linsey DeBruin. Not a name to forget. after 50 years.

I Think the road you can`t remember is Southover. It Runs from Downham Way by what was Public Toilets towards Sundrige Park The flats are near the bottom on the left side with a green in front. Hope That Helps.

Pendragon School has gone and now they have built another school there and it is just a large grey concrete mess. No thought to the design not inkeeping with the houses in the area
