Sad news with the lost of David (Jones) Bowie, Ex Downham Boy, went to Burnt Ash School, On our local TV News, it was stated,  he came from a very rough part of London? He lived in Brixton to the age of 6 years with his family, they moved to our neck of the woods,my family came from Camberwell & Southwark  a lot of us came from the older parts of South London & moved to the Downham Estate.  I would have left Burnt Ash by the time David attended (4 Years younger than me) he will be missed.

Hi Vic, my dad worked at the Bromley Garage, conductor on the 47/146 routes would have been around 1945-53?. Remember a photo of dads bus /Driver leaning out of the cab trying to shake hands with the driver of a very early bubble car, picture in the news papers. Dad was off the buses by the time I visited the Bromley Court, so I was clear of being seen,I had my motor cycle, so I would have been around 16-17 years, I was in the Army by 18 years old.

I check from time to time, but not much action on the site, first day of winter for us 1st June, the weather is a lot cooler after a good warm summer and some good summer rains but need more here in Oz. We are off in July-August with 4x4-Caravan to the north which is great weather this time of year, winter is the best for the north west. Watched 60 minute makeover the other day and they did a make over in Capstone Road, Downham looks much the same, apart from all the cars.

This Obituaries turn up in the West Australia 12.12.2014 of Frank Fraser, one of the well know South London gangster, who had ties in our area in the 60s one being the Catford Club, just up from Pets corner same side. Also he was tied up with the "Kray" twins and the Great Train Robbers, quite a story he was not a very nice person, We always gave the Catford club a very big miss, always knew that it was not a good place for teenage's like us at the time. Always remember being pull over by the police for an unlicensed car and being ask if I knew of the people who use to run the Catford Club.the story came from c.Telegraph Group Ltd (2014) UK?
