Shops and Businesses
You
can tell much about a local community by the state of its shops - whether they
are thriving, whether they are closing, or whether new ones are opening, and by
the variety available. When, a couple of years ago, there was a major fire in
Woolworths and it had to be closed, many locals wondered if it signalled a
demise for the local shopping facilities, but were delighted to be proved wrong
when it re-opened as a modern "Woolworths Local".
Similarly, when the BP garage and accompanying mini-supermarket
was demolished recently, we were pleasantly surprised to see an improved garage
and brand new Safeways rise from the rubble! Along with the Late Co-op, Alldays,
and the large new Co-op at the top of Downham Way, the community is certainly
well-served by supermarkets.
Smaller
local shops include florists, newsagents, several charity shops, hardware, motor
spares, jewellers, a Computer shop, mobile phones, Pet Store, dozens of others,
and of course, the landmark local shop, Alladin's Cave.
This section will eventually feature details of many local shops and businesses; we are busy contacting them for information to include, and advertising here is completely free. In the meanwhile, you can use the links below to search for specific categories of shops, businesses and local services.
